Meet Our Team

Matt Morris

As Charter Bank’s CEO, Matt oversees the day-to-day operations and all aspects of all four bank locations, as well as the overall strategy of the bank. Matt started with Charter Bank in July of 2002. He grew up in Ankeny, graduated from Ankeny High School, and went on to graduate from The University of Northern Iowa in 2002 with a BA in Finance. Starting his banking career in 1999, Matt has enjoyed working in all facets of banking from the teller line, compliance, and lending, which made him a great candidate for CEO at Charter Bank. 

Matt is involved in numerous organizations including serving a leader with his church’s youth group, a board member for the Iowa Bankers Association and a board member for the Iowa Bankers Mortgage Corporation. He is on the finance committee for the Grimes Storehouse and is a regular blood donor at LifeServe Blood Center. He previously served on several area community boards, including JEDCO, Grimes Storehouse and the Iowa Banking School Advisory Board.

Matt and his wife have 3 children and live in Johnston. In their free time they like to ride bikes, play cards and yard games with friends, walk their dogs, and watch their youngest daughter compete in gymnastics.

Sharm Sisler

As Charter Bank’s Chief Operating Officer, Sharm is responsible for the overall operations of the Bank which includes data processing, computer operations, financial and regulatory reporting and supporting staff in their respective daily needs.

 

Sharm started with Charter Bank in 2007.  He is from a small town in eastern Iowa where he grew up working in his family owned bank.  This opportunity laid the foundation for his passion to always work for a true community bank like Charter Bank.

 

Sharm graduated from Iowa State University in 1985 with a BBA with an emphasis in Finance.  After graduation, he stayed in central Iowa working for 3 other community banks before joining Charter Bank.  He is active in the Johnston Chamber of Commerce and is currently serving as treasurer.  Sharm and his wife ReDawn live in Johnston and have two grown boys. They enjoy being involved with their church and in their spare time they enjoy each other’s company, spending time with family, cheering on the Cyclones, watching movies on the BIG screen and an occasional round of golf.

Brien Scandridge

As Vice President Johnston Market Manager, Brien manages staff, assists customers and helps with any and all lending needs from big to small. He enjoys working with business clients throughout Johnston and the surrounding communities.  

He grew up in a rural farming community – Victor, Iowa. Brien graduated from Hartwick-Ladora-Victor High School and went on to graduate from AIB College of Business with a BA in Business Administration. After college he started with Wells Fargo for a brief time and then went to work at Principal Financial Group. He began in the participant call center and then moved on to phone sales for retirement planning servicing. From there he moved to an analyst position for close to two and half years and then onto management for the last two years.

Brien and his wife, Brittany, reside in Johnston along with their dogs. They enjoy spending time with their nieces and nephews as well as playing golf, and watching football and basketball – especially Iowa State. Brien also enjoys automotive detailing during his free time.

Rick Mosher

As Charter Bank’s Compliance Officer, Rick is responsible for the overall compliance and regulatory oversight for the bank. This includes bank deposits, lending, and operations. He also supports staff in their respective daily needs.

Rick started with Charter Bank in 2022. He is from Clarion, a small town in North Central Iowa. While in college, he started his banking career in 1983, where he worked as a collector for a Des Moines corporate bank. 

Rick graduated from Upper Iowa University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Financial Management. After graduation, he held various levels of banking positions for community banks in central Iowa and worked for the FDIC before joining Charter Bank. Rick lives in Urbandale and has two grown children and five grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with family, classic cars, and an occasional round of golf.

Corey Dutchuk

Corey started as a Teller at Charter Bank in June of 2001. In the last 20 years, he has moved up the ranks to become Security Officer and Assistant Cashier and is responsible for coordinating the development, implementation and administration of all aspects of the corporate-wide Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Compliance Program and the Bank’s Security Program.

Corey grew up in Southwest North Dakota (Bowman and Dickinson), graduated from South East Polk High School and went on to graduate with an associate’s degree in Management from Hamilton College.

He enjoys staying active in the community by serving as Treasurer for the Grimes Lions Club. Corey also volunteers for various other events in the community and the surrounding communities in the Des Moines Metro.

Corey resides with his wife, Amy, in Grimes where their two children attend DC-G schools. In his free time he likes to fish and spend time with his family.

Logan Crannell

As a Loan Officer, Logan enjoys talking to and getting to know customers and assisting them with their lending needs to help them achieve their financial goals. He grew up in Adel and graduated from ADM High school.

 

Logan started working with Charter Bank part-time as a teller in 2019 while he was a student at Iowa State University. He recently graduated from Iowa State University with a BS in Business Management.

 

Logan is following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Larry Crannell, who helped establish our Waukee location in 2001. He lives in Grimes and in his free time enjoys spending time with friends, watching sports, and golfing.

Matt Pick

Matt started at Charter Bank in July of 2023. As Vice President Grimes Market Manager, he enjoys working with consumer and business clients throughout Grimes and the surrounding communities.

Matt grew up in Northwest Iowa on a family farm near LeMars. He graduated from LeMars Community High School and went on to graduate from Briar Cliff University with a BA in Business. Matt started his banking career in 2008. Throughout his banking career he held several different roles: Teller, Teller Manager, Personal Banker, and VP Branch Manager; all prior to being VP Market Manager.

He enjoys being active in the Metro and has served on several local non-profit boards.

Matt, his wife Kara, and their child live in Des Moines. He enjoys woodworking, watching movies and spending time with family.

Greg Grote

Greg started with Charter Bank in 2006 where he gained experience in various lending and management roles. He was promoted to President in 2021. Greg manages a lending portfolio composed mostly of business and ag loans while also providing strategic leadership to all four Charter Bank locations. Greg has served on Charter Bank’s board as a Board of Director since 2021. 

Greg enjoys staying involved in the Waukee community. He served as a Board of Director and Treasurer for the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce for four years and remains active in the Chamber today. He has been a member of the Waukee Downtown Business Group since 2010 in various roles including Treasurer and Secretary. This group plays a key role in partnering with the City on short- and long-term visions for the Waukee downtown area along with managing key community events such as Farmer’s Market and WinterFest. Greg is active in his church and volunteers at various other community and local events.

Greg grew up on a farm outside a small town in Shelby County, IA where he helped his family with row crop farming and livestock. At a young age, he learned the value of hard work and developed a passion for agriculture, community and relationships. Greg graduated high school from Harlan Community High School and went on to graduate from Iowa State University in 2006 with a BA in Business Finance. While in college, Greg worked as a Teller for three years at a bank in Boone, IA.

Greg and his wife, Courtney, have two children. They reside on an acreage outside of Waukee, IA where they enjoy being able to have a hobby farm. In their free time, they enjoy spending time with family and being outdoors. 

Ciara Bemiss

Ciara started at Charter Bank in 2021. She began as a Loan Officer and most recently moved up to Assistant Vice President Waukee Market Manager. She manages staff, assists customers, and helps with any and all lending needs from big to small. Ciara enjoys working with consumer and business clients throughout Waukee and the surrounding communities.  

She grew up in the small town of West Union, Iowa and graduated from North Fayette Valley High School. Ciara went on to graduate from the University of Northern Iowa with a BA in Finance and Economics. She started her banking career in college where she worked at a community bank in Cedar Falls as a teller and loan processing intern.

Ciara is a member of the Waukee Young Professionals, where she make business connections, volunteers, and supports the local community. 

She lives in Waukee. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and family, golfing, checking out local coffee shops, and taking her two golden retrievers on walks. 

Brian Vahle

As Vice President Ankeny Market Manager, Brian manages staff, assists customers, and assists with all lending needs, big or small. He enjoys working with consumer and business clients throughout Ankeny and the surrounding communities.  
 
Brian grew up in Burlington, Iowa, attending Burlington Notre Dame High School. He graduated from Creighton University with a BSBA in Finance and Economics. Since then, he has worked in the banking industry for around 35 years in a variety of senior roles and market president positions.
 
Brian previously served as President of the Johnston Economic Development Corporation, following in the footsteps of one of our founders, Tim Heldt. He volunteers at Meals from the Heartland. He lives with his wife in Ankeny and has 6 children, 2 stepchildren, and 4 grandchildren. In Brian’s free time, he enjoys golfing and biking.
